craigslist.org - for your local area

Start looking in your local papers for a second hand set up. You don’t want to be paying postage, if you want a cheap deal.

My best deals have been from Craig’s list. Just make sure not to buy anything that has had a reptile living in it. It’s hard to get it clean enough to be sure your water will not be contaminated.

I would strongly recommend not buying any living things online - get them local. Dry goods, etc. online is usually the least expensive option. The cost of shipping live stock outweighs the savings you get buying online. Many times, the fish are so stressed when you get them that they won’t make it. You’ll get credit for the fish, but not the shipping which is typically $30 or more.

If you are looking to do a salt water setup, either fish or reef, I would recommend checking out this forum: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/

You can hook up with local hobbyists and find very good deals on fish, corals and equipment.

Petco.com is a great website for purchasing live fish live rock, plants, supplies, and allot more!

An actual fish site would be the best option since you know it would work properly and all is new. However if you are looking for a deal, go to Craigslist.com, Ebay, or Amazon.com to get what you can for a good, low price. However, if you do get one used, find out when it last held fish and/or water. It makes a BIG difference on getting the tank set up right if it hasn’t seen water in a year or more. Good luck!!
