The ugly stick is a good rod for the price you pay, but it’s weight is simply too heavy for 10 or 12 hours of non-stop casting.
80% of my gear is made by Shakespeare. Ugly stick is a good reliable (not to mention good priced) pole. Everyone has their own opinion about what gear to use, but Shakespeare has been around for years and is still going strong, so they have to be doing something right.
Shakespeare is a great brand combo keep using it and you will see that it will produce for you.
Depending on how it is used, the ugly stick is a good set up.
This rod is a real work horse, almost impossible to break and still sensitive enough to catch walleye. This brand is fine for a person who doesn’t fish each and every weekend as it is a bit heavy. If you decide to upgrade to finess rods, you would notice a difference but ,just how much money do you really need to spend?? The biggest walleye I ever caught was
with a $ 40 rod and reel set. Since then I’ve spent thousands on fishing equipment and am no smarter or luckier for it. Just get out there and enjoy. Good luck!
It’s awesome for the money. In fact, as a tournament bass fisherman, I recommend Shakespeare gear for anyone who is starting out. It doesn’t compare to the gear I use, but you could buy 8-10 Ugly Stick rods for what I pay for my stuff. If the fishing bug really bites you and you want to start climbing the ladder as far as gear quality goes, stick with the Shakespeare until you can start buying the middle priced Shimano equipment. You will gain nothing by switching from Shakespeare to Shimano’s least expensive equipment.
I have several of their rod/reel combo’s and for the money they’re great. Unless you want to spend more than $100 per rod/reel setup, they are a good value.
for a kid or a beginner
It’s a tough combination of strength and value for the $$$. As mentioned by other members, it is a little heavy but it is gonna last you a good long time and when you finally get that big fish on, you’ll be glad you have that rod in your hands. Tight lines and go catch a big one!!!
that’s all i buy i know there are way more better and moe expensive rods out there but for the average fisherman they are good and it really depends on the type of fishing you do.for ex. if your going after trout you may want to buy the ultra light pole or if your going for catfish you may want to buy the one that says ugly stick catfish.just try them out and get a feel for them don’t go too heavy as they defeat the purpose of fighting a fish.happy fishing
i like the rods…if they are a 1 piece…the reels dont work for me
There best product would be the rods. That’s the only ugly stick product I would use!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
