How do I go fishing URGENT?

Well my husbands birthday is tommorow and I am thinking about going to Wal-mart and getting fishing supplies, What should I do he has never been fishing. How do you fish? What do I need to get? What would be the best time to go? Where there is not anyone at the lake?
Please tell me everything I need to know? Do you think this is a good birthday idea? We can both learn together.

hahahahah! That’s great. Do you like to eat fish? You can catch them - BUT you got to eat them too.

You might find the best fishing supplies are a stick and a string and NO HOOK - then you won’t catch anything but you’ll have the fun of being out in the woods.

Real fishing understanding develops over a lifetime - so it’s not easy to suggest any sort of equipment - but if you do get something, make sure it’s really cheap because you’ll probably find you’ll want something else once you get out there.

Mostly - it’s just to have fun - so don’t make a big job out of this!! And take some flour and salt for the fish… do you know how to get the guts out?

1) get fishing licenses
ask the clerk for help
2) get two rods (maybe 2 different styles)
2a - fishing from the bank - use a cane pole

will need bobbers and worms and hooks, oh my!

and know how to tie knots for fish hooks

and remember - a bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office

all the best

DO NOT FORGET A LICENSE! A huge fine could be the unfortunate end to a wonderful day on the lake. Supplies needed are rods, reels, fishing line (the past three ususlly come together in what is called a combo), hooks (keep them fairly small but get a varity), weights (again do not get the huge ones), and bobbers (aka floats). I would start out with a simple spinning reel (ask the salesman for derection here but I would choose a Zebco 33 but they are fairly expensive). There are other open spinning reels sold at mega marts for ten dollars or less. These will likely break quickly but you get what you paid for. Most megamarts will sell bait but if you are going after pan fish I would sugest either bread (white not wheat) pressed onto the hook or bacon cut into tiny pices and put right over the barb. Rember not to overload the hook as this will make it eaiser for the fish to remove the bait. Something many people leave out of the advice they give is for the reciving party to make a list of things they will need to pack for a day on the lake. Do not forget to bring some hand towles pliers and a knife.

1.) Fishing license, around $26 for both of you.

2.) Two Shakespeare Firebird push-button reel and rod combo, $26 for two.

3.) 2 packs of plastic bobbers. $2

4.) A pack of small split shots. $1.50.

5.) A pack of those cheap renegade panfish hooks. $1.50

Just press the button release in, hold it in, raise your arm back, and while going forward, take your finger off the button and you are casting your line! Attach a bobber to your line by wrapping around line on the little things on the top and bottom of it. Make sure they’re secure. Bite on a split shot with your teeth, or use pliers to crimp 2 or 3 on. Run the line through th eye of the hook and make a big O in the line by crossing the line that ends, and the base line, then twist the hook until you see about 8 rings in the line, stick the end of the line through the little opening that you should see above your hook. Pull tightly. Clip off the tag end of your line with scissors. For bait use worms they sell them at Wal-Mart also for like $3 for 2 dozen.

instead of going to walmart, try going to an outdoor store like Cabela’s or Big 5. They are the most knowledgeable. The next thing that you need to get is a fishing license. THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT. Next, get a couple of fishing poles. there are places that have sets, with the poles, the line, and sometimes, a mini tackle box with bobbers, split shots, hooks, and all different stuff. get a nice tackle box to put everything in. i found a nice one that included a lot of different fishing items in it. next, get the bait. you can get worms, which are fun to try to put on, or what my mom told me is best, is the Power Bait by Berkley. They have several kinds, but the one that i got was the Chartreuse. it’s neon green. You can even find a book at places like Barnes & Noble called the idiots guide to basic fishing. i bought that one, and it’s really helpful. also, get a net, and a foam tackle box to put drinks in or anything that you catch. also, bring a lot of sunblock, water, and a hat to keep the sun off of your head. It’s best to go really early, like 6:30-7:00am. it’s when the fish get up. that’s a really great birthday present.

get a license and i would say for a first time fishing get some bobbers hooks poles and some live worms you will catch some perch and bluegill if you are lucky you might catch a catfish on a nightcrawler
